Ten days ago I was gardening and suddenly felt something in my back go ‘twang’. Ouch! So I’ve been off work since and having to be quite gentle with myself. Putting my pants on is now much easier than it was a few days ago! I’ve been staying active to make sure my back doesn’t seize up through sitting/lying/standing up for too long and indulged in some short walks round my lovely village. It has helped my back no end.
Rupert has just joined a local angling club and thought it would be nice to take me to see the lakes where I could sit quietly in my comfy deckchair in the shade of the willows at the lakeside and watch him fish. And what a joy it was – so peaceful and beautiful.
The fish were not biting though, it was too hot. But Rupert has patience and determination. I was quite happy to sit, potter, look at the waterlilies, admire the yellow flags and watch the waterfowl busily feeding and raising their chicks.
Rupert chucked in groundbait, boilies, sweetcorn… and as the sun began to drop the fish started feeding. He got a bite, struck hard and wooooo…. he landed a lovely common carp.
It was lovely to see him handle his fish with such care and reverence, admire its beauty and then very, very gently return it to the cool peaceful waters of the lake.
You won’t be surprised to hear that the trip to the lake has given me an idea for a painting…
