Lazy dates speech

02 Jan 2007 / in general stuff, going off on one
There’s an advert on the telly at the moment promoting a film, in which an American voice tell us it’s ‘in cinemas Jan five’. That’s how he says it: ‘Jan five’. NO! In Britain, we say the whole month’s name: ‘January the fifth’, or the ‘fifth of January’. We are never, ever so damned lazy as to abbreviate in this shocking and ugly way. You can imagine how I screamed at the telly!
